A businessman has paid an amazing GBP320,000 for Concorde’s nose cone, in a special auction selling off memorabilia from the legendary jet. The 11-foot nose cone took pride of place at the auction, which was held yesterday by auctioneers Bonhams, at London’s Olympia. It fetched some 10 times what had been expected, but the man who bought it reportedly said he would have paid as much as a million pounds for the nose cone. According to the Daily Express, 45-year-old Ferenc Gaspar, from Hungary, said: “I would have gone higher; my guess was that it would go for around GBP1 million. I’ll leave it in the UK for as long as it can be put to good use and raise more money from charity.” The auction raised GBP760,000, with British Airways donating GBP500,000 to the children’s charity Get Kids Going! Aside from the nose cone, Concorde’s machmeter sold for GBP28,000, the captain’s seat for GBP26,000, and its cutlery for GBP3,200.
