Poor weather leads to spike in last minute bookings

Saturday, 10 Aug, 2023 0

The wet weather in the UK has sparked a last-minute rush for holidays abroad.

Travel firms are reporting a big rise in last minute bookings.

Advantage Travel Partnership says members saw bookings for August trips more than quadruple.

It said 18% of late bookings have been for travel in August.

According to the BBC, several major travel agent groups saw bookings spike amid the rainy weather.

ABTA says capacity is very limited now for travel this month.

“You can get them if you are flexible, not too fussed about which destination – but I’d also recommend thinking about going in September, October, even November.”

“As soon as we experienced a wet July, bookings increased,” OnTheBeach told the BBC.

“More people are simply looking to get away, regardless of the destination,” Jet2 said.

It is a similar story at Club Med.

“For the last week of July we saw sales increase by 146% for departures in August and September, Nicolas Bresch, UK MD said.

It says the south coast of Turkey proved most popular, followed by Opio, Club Med’s French Riviera resort and then Marbella.
