If Spain and Greece were to follow France onto the 'amber plus' list, it could put holidays in jeopardy for nearly six million people, Labour says. There has been speculation that Greece and Spain could go amber-plus which would mean fully vaccinated holidaymakers would still have to isolate on their return, although the government hasn't officially confirmed it. France was the first country to get amber plus status over concerns about the Beta variant. Labour's shadow transport secretary Jim McMahon said the government has 'failed to protect our borders, allowing Covid cases to rocket' and has 'refused to be straight with the public and give them the information they need to book travel with confidence.'   Read full story

There are fears other popular holiday destinations could join France on the so-called 'amber-plus' blacklist. The new amber-plus list could soon include Spain and Greece. That is the view of Paul Charles, CEO of travel consultancy The PC Agency. "France is one of the big three countries we visit each year and I think the concern is the Government will be looking at Spain and Greece and potentially add those to the amber plus category," Charles said. France was added as the first amber-plus country which means returning travellers will have to self-isolate even if fully-vaccinated. It could also extend to Benelux. "Luxembourg has very high incidence of the Brazilian variant, so must surely be red at least amber plus. Belgium, Netherlands and Germany must be at risk too - low incidence of variants but it could change," data analyst Tim White told the Telegraph. France has called the UK's decision baffling and 'excessive,' said  France's junior European affairs minister Clement Beaune.
