This is the first centre of its kind in the UK aviation industry, and gives the company control of its most critical in-flight retail operations. During Summer 22, airlines faced supplier disruption affecting in-flight retail services. It took the decision to take back control over in-flight retail operations as well as drive growth. The 150,000 square feet facility is located in Middlewich, Cheshire. It will act as a centre for Jet2.com to stock, manage and distribute millions of in-flight retail products for customers. Products include drinks and non-perishable food that can either be pre-ordered or feature in the airline’s in-flight menu. The centre also handles products for sale from the onboard shop, such as fragrances, beauty products, gifts and duty-free. The Retail Operations Centre is a first for UK aviation, as no other airline has taken its in-flight retail operations in-house like this. During a typical year, it estimates more than 25 million items will pass through the centre. Each day, items are stored, picked and loaded onto thousands of bar carts. Each bar cart is securely screened within six minutes by passing through Cart X-Ray Scanners that have been installed at the centre. Bar carts are then distributed to Jet2.com’s UK airport bases. The Retail Operations Centre complies with relevant regulations and approved by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The Centre has created 300 new jobs across warehouse operations, security and inventory control. Jet2 promoted John Davis to the new position of Director of Retail to lead this area of the business. -

The holiday island has been hit hard by severe flooding stranding hundreds of holidaymakers. Torrential rains have turned roads into rivers, cutting off some areas. The Foreign Office updated its travel advice for Greece with an extreme weather warning. Cars were washed away in fast moving storm waters and holidaymakers have been evacuated. “We are continuing to closely monitor the weather conditions,” Jet2 said. “We believe (cancelling) is the right thing to do in terms of allowing the island and its population to quickly return to normal.” “We will be contacting affected customers with regards to their refund and rebooking options.” Jet2 said it will fly empty to Skiathos to bring customers back to the UK. “We will review this closely and may put on additional aircraft to fly customers home if required.” “Our absolute focus is on doing everything we can to look after everyone.” Some holidaymakers reportedly remain trapped on upper floors of hotels without power and running water. At least two people have died and several are unaccounted for. Greek authorities said the rains from Storm Daniel were the heaviest since records began Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis cited climate change as a factor for the floods as well as the recent wildfires. He gave a dire warning. "I am afraid that the carefree summers, as we knew them… will cease to exist.” In some parts of Greece, a year's worth of rain fell in a single day. -
