Thursday, 24 Oct, 2011 0

The opening of the new Lombok Bandara International Airport, which can accommodate wide-body aircraft and handle three million passengers a year, is to be followed by the launch of a US$3bn resort enclave on the island.

The Bali Tourism Development Corporation, which is involved in the project, is appealing for hotel investors to fast track the development

The Mandalika resort spans an area of more than 1100 hectares located in the south of Lombok along 7.6kms of white sand beachfront.

Facilities planned include hotels, a golf course and F1 motor racing circuit.

Indonesia’s president, Soesilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who attended the ground-breaking ceremony for the new resort, suggested the establishment of a tourism and creative industry school to help prepare local residents to participate in the economic growth of the island.
