Nepal reports jump in visitors

Sunday, 08 Sep, 2010 0

Visitor to Nepal jumped 24.3% to 34,415 in August compared to the same month last year.

According to the latest figures, British arrivals alone were up by 15.5%.

The destination has declared 2011 ‘Nepal Tourism Year’ and aims to welcome one million international visitors to the country, compared to just under 400,000 in 2009.

In preparation, four new trekking routes will be opened up to visitors – the Annapurna Conservation Area, Limi Valley Trekking Route in Homla, Dudhkunda Trek in Soulukumbu and the Panchpokharai Bhairav Kunda Trek.

The Great Himalayan Trail, which will be highest and longest alpine trekking route stretching some 2,800 miles along the full range of the Himalayan region, is also scheduled to be inaugurated on January 14, 2011.

Nepal was beset by political unrest for more than 10 years, but following a peace agreement in 2006, the country is now open for business.
