UK tourism organisations joining forces

Sunday, 13 Oct, 2006 0

Five UK tourism organisations have forged a strategic partnership to enable them to work closer together and provide a stronger lobbying presence.

They aim to create a collective voice in policy and lobbying activity and undertake specific joint activities.

A website at is being developed to act as a portal to the new partnership.

The groups involved are the British Resorts and Destinations Association (BRADA), Destination Performance UK (DP:UK), The Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management (ILAM), The Tourism Management Institute (TMI) and The Tourism Society (TS).

Collectively they have more than 3,500 members and 200 public sector agencies and partnerships in membership. BRADA and DP:UK members are drawn predominantly from local authorities, ILAM, TMI and TS memberships comprise mainly individuals with some corporate memberships.

In combining their skills they hope to create a stronger national and regional voice for tourism. All have different strengths and expertise in tourism, destination and resort management and performance.

A statement said: “The aims of working more closely together include improved communications and lobbying activity and to help other agencies to have a clearer understanding of the roles and specialisms of the different bodies.

“National event planning will also benefit from closer liaison and the group is already working on the next Destination Management Handbook.”
