Six Senses for Oman, Spain

Thursday, 15 Feb, 2007 0

Bangkok-based Six Senses Resort and Spa is tweaking its branding ahead of expansion into the Middle East and Europe, but it has ruled out establishing one of its properties in Dubai. “Dubai is too Disney-fied,” said Raymond Hall, Six Senses chief marketing officer.
Six Senses will rebrand its Evason resorts as Evason Latitude, joining top-of-the-range Soneva, Evason Hideways and Six Senses Spas.
Hall said that the Six Senses Spa was no longer part of the Madinet Jumeirah resort in Dubai after the two companies, Six Senses and Jumeirah International, had agreed to go their own way.
Instead, Six Senses is pushing ahead with an 85-pool villa Evanson Hideaway at Zighy Bay in Oman and a Six Senses Spa at Sharq Village in Qatar.
It is also opening the Evanson Jafre, one and a half hours north of Barcelona. “Again it’s in a fairly isolated spot but we like to build in out of the way places and then make them accessible,” said Hall.
Visitors to the Oman property will fly into Dubai and then take a90-minute trip through the desert and mountains to reach the resort. There is also a bizarre option to arrive as a pillion passenger on a para-glider.
In Asia, a fourth Evanson Hideway, including a six Senses Spa village, is opening on Yao Noi island in Phang Nga Bay, while the company’s first destination spa, the 62 pool villa Six Senses Erawan, will open on Naka islands, 10 minutes from Phuket.
