Qantas announcement as a result of further A380 delays

Friday, 04 Oct, 2006 0

Peter Gregg, Qantas CFO confirmed this morning that Qantas understood from its discussions with Airbus that the airline would not receive its first A380 aircraft until August 2008, around two years late.

He said, “We expect to have four aircraft by the end of 2008 and seven by mid-2009, “which we understand maintains the original delivery schedule with the other two launch airlines.”

He added that Qantas was disappointed with the delay and had commenced a review of its capacity needs in light of the revised timetable from Airbus.

A Qantas spokesperson also told The Mole that Qantas’ initial delivery date for the first A380 had been October 2006, with a revised date of April 2007, then October 2007 and now August 2008.

When asked about cancellation the Qantas spokesperson told The Mole, “There is no suggestion whatsoever of Qantas cancelling their orders for A380’s, but the airline is seeking additional compensation in line with the contractual agreement with Airbus”.

When asked whether if there were further delays would Qantas consider cancelling, the spokesperson reponded, “That would be speculation and we do not expect any further delays”.
