Passenger sues TSA for missed departure

Friday, 14 Jun, 2016 0
While thousands of flyers have been irked over missed departures after long waits in TSA airport screening lines, one passenger is taking it a step further.
A Minneapolis man is suing the Transportation Security Administration for damages after missing his flight.
Hooman Nikizad has filed a lawsuit against the TSA and the Metropolitan Airports Commission for $506.85 plus court costs after he was kept waiting for 90 minutes in a screening line.
He missed his flight and had to spend that amount for a new ticket to Los Angeles on another airline.
"The defendants’ failures cost me a new flight ticket and multiple transportation costs to and from airports totalling the sum above ($506.85)", the lawsuit states.
Nikizad’s lawsuit notes TSA administrator Paul Neffenger visited Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport just days earlier and promised: "You’ll see some improvements in the coming days."
The TSA has officially admitted their shortcomings in providing adequate staffing to cope with passenger numbers, Nikizad said in the filing.
The airport and TSA have done a very poor job of getting passengers through security," he said, adding that he arrived at MSP two hours ahead of the scheduled flight departure.
