Meetings and event planning veteran Robert Sanders has been elected as President of the Greater New York Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPIGNY).

Sanders brings 30 years’ experience in meeting and event planning and currently holds the post as general manager of Ovation Travel Group’s Meetings & Events division.

He previously served as vice president of membership for MPIGNY, which is one of the ten largest MPI chapters in the world.  

Sanders will serve on the chapter’s executive committee and will take a lead role in future strategy and vision.

He holds a hospitality degree from University of South Carolina-Columbia and is a former winner of the American Red Cross Humanitarian Award.

Prior to joining Ovation Travel Group in 2010, Sanders established Hospitality Resource Group, offering training, marketing and event programs.

The New York chapter of MPI has over 600 members representing a combined annual spend on meetings and events of almost $800 million.

Members include corporate event planners, hoteliers, convention bureaus, tourism offices and independent business owners.
