British man among four killed in Stockholm attack

Wednesday, 10 Apr, 2017 0

A British man has been named as one of the four people who died in Friday’s Stockholm terror attack.

Chris Bevington, 41, was a director of global partnerships for music streaming site Spotify and had lived in Stockholm for several years.

Three others – a Belgian and two Swedes – were killed when a lorry drove into Ahlens department store in Drottninggatan, one of the city’s main pedestrian streets, just before 3pm local time on Friday.

Fifteen people were injured in the attack. Ten are still in hospital, two of whom are in intensive care.

The Stockholm subway system was shut down and members of parliament were ordered to stay in the Riksdag.

Police confirmed on Saturday they found a suspect device in the truck and the attacker is believed to have been injured trying and failing to detonate the device.

He has been named as Rakhmat Akilov, a 39-year-old asylum seeker from Uzbekistan. A second person has been detained.
